High bulk folding box board in GC1 and GC2 — stiffness per gram, so the carton holds up on less fibre.

High bulk board is bought to take weight out of a carton without taking stiffness out of it. The board is built as a layered structure — top coating over bleached sulphate pulp, a BCTMP core, bleached sulphate again, and back starch — and it is the low-density core that delivers caliper without grammage.
In practice it is used two ways: to lightweight an existing carton, and to replace manila board where the pack needs to look better than greyback allows. The back side is specified for adhesion, so it still laminates cleanly.
